In Volume 2 , Rachel's Letter, Rachel has just sent her letter over to sister Leah's when her older son returns home with devastating news. A farming accident has left a neighbor, Menno Yoder, widowed and his four small children motherless. Despite the shock of the tragedy, the community quickly comes together to support the family and mourn their loss. At the funeral, Steve recognizes Mimi Hostetler, the young Amish woman from the hardware store and learns that she has never married. Meanwhile, Mary Ruth notices that the one of the Yoder children, Mervin, is being overlooked and Rachel pushes her and Katie to tend to his needs.

Her happiness is short-lived when she stops in at Rachel's house, only to learn disturbing news about her brother-in-law.

While leaning on Mary Ruth for advice, she finds her answers to Melvin create even more questions for herself and her future.

Miriam decides it is time for Mary Ruth to return home and sends a letter with Steve to Leah's farm. When no one can find Mary Ruth, Steve leaves the letter with Rachel and heads over to visit Mimi. Yet, something distracts him along the way and he finds his mind in a whirlwind of fear and doubt over his upcoming nuptials. Little Katie gets to spend some time with Butterscotch and, to her delight, Melvin stops into the farm to visit with her. But the conversation takes a turn that neither one of them is prepared to take.

In the final volume of the series, Miriam's Package, church Sunday produces quite a few surprises for the Fischer family.  Mary Ruth struggles to balance her emotions after the announcement is made at church while Menno continues to keep his promise to her. Miriam and Elias confront Mary Ruth about her decision and how she has approached telling them. Steve takes Mimi to his farm to show her around her future home. Little Katie and Melvin continue their discussion about love during the Yoder wedding feast.
