Amish Blizzards: Volume One: A Winter Surplus begins with Amish schoolteacher, Abby Yoder, unpacking quarts of food and settling into her new rented farmhouse.  Suddenly, a knock at the door brings a handsome Amish widower named Nathan Yoder, who had previously sent three schoolteachers packing when they had become engaged. 

   Nathan has secretly prayed for "that one" to come along, be devoted to teaching, and to not fall in love.  However, he also has  been asking God for "that other one" to come knocking, the one that will be a mother to his children and a devoted wife to him.

   Abby's main purpose is for money.  She had packed up and left Indiana to take the teaching job in Millersburg, Ohio, so that her blind sister can get funds to attend The School for the Blind in Louisville.  Six other blind Amish girls, all of whom moved to Indiana in hopes of schooling, depend of Abby to work hard and send money home. 

   Abby finds herself off-track as she finds Nathan very handsome; she is intrigued by him.  Nathan returns the feelings, saying that her eyes are mesmerizing.  Can each fight their own desires to provide the needs for others, or will their needs be so strong that they may give in to love?

Priscilla Smucker's mother has talked her into spending the winter months making a quilt. After picking out the pattern and the fabric, Priscilla is ready for sharing fellowship with the other Amish women in her community. Unfortunately, the attention that she receives warrants more jealousy and bullying from another young woman. For the second time, Priscilla has to determine how to deal with the fallout from bullying by Susie Byler. Will it drive a wedge between Priscilla and the community or, even worse, Stephen Esh?

Since they do not have access to photocopiers, the first person on the list will receive the letter, read it, and respond. That person sends both the first letter and their response to the second name on the list. This continues until the entire package of letters goes full-circle, returning to the original sender.

In Volume 4 of the 10 part series, Anna's Letter, Anna is becoming suspicious of Steve's behavior around the farm and his mysterious "disappearances" that cause him to miss chores. Little Katie is excited to learn that her father has relented on her one secret wish. Mary Ruth is adapting as the caregiver for the grieving Menno Yoder.
