EXCERPT
Maggie’s lungs drew in great gasps of air. It was warm and rather stale, but it felt strangely refreshing to breathe normally again. She turned on the spot, dazzled by the gilt furnishings in the hallway where they stood. The doors bumped shut behind her and she jumped. She saw movement and realised she’d spotted herself in a full-length, ornately framed mirror. Her journey through the water had pulled her hair loose and left it damply dark. Her wet dress clung to her body, showing every curve and revealing more cleavage than it had when she’d left her cabin. Droplets from the sea made her pale skin shine. Two huge, bright eyes looked back at her from the glass.

Then she saw him standing beside her, looking her over from head to toe. She snatched her hand away from him and then a second later wondered if she’d stop breathing.

He didn’t give her the chance to find out. Before she had time to inhale, he swept her into his arms and crushed his lips to hers. She brought her hands up between them and tried to push him away, but he was too strong. He held her close and kissed her harder. His beard prickled against her face as he claimed her mouth with his own.

She remembered his musky scent from the kiss on the ship. He made her dizzy. Weakly, she beat her fists against his chest, but it was only out of reflex. She opened her mouth to him, breathing heavily as he explored her with his tongue.

Groaning, she kissed him back. He surrounded her, his arms wrapped around her body and his will wrapped around her soul. His kisses were like an assault battering her doubts into the ground.

A slow heat kindled in her, generating moisture and need.

She wanted him.

It didn’t matter that he’d snatched her off the ship. It didn’t matter that she was a captive down there in his domain.

She wanted him to take her.
