Every time a six pack of thugs jumps a student, a teacher is attacked, or an arsonist strikes, Lincoln High's staff buzzes, “It’s only a matter of time.” It's just talk—until tragedy strikes. A nameless, faceless victim—until high school counselor Alex Tamburelli stumbles on her best friend's body lying in a pool of blood. A few days later a student dies under suspicious circumstances. Are the two deaths related? Driven by anger, and lust for the truth, Alex casts her grief aside and pursues the killer. Detective Cole Grant, a recent widower assigned to the case, spends almost as much time fishing her out of hot water as he does collecting evidence. Neither will admit to the other, that with each of Alex's escapades, another piece of the puzzle drops into place. The unlikely duo form an alliance, as the trail of clues takes them out of the halls of the urban school, to a swanky apartment building downtown, and ultimately to a deserted rural warehouse.
