This article explains how Quentin Tarantino’s new film, Django Unchained, creates a new genre. In a 2007 interview, Tarantino said he wanted “to do movies that deal with America's horrible past with slavery and stuff but do them like spaghetti westerns, not like big issue movies.”
In Django Unchained, Tarantino has created a genre that he calls the “southern” in which blacks fight for their freedom in the American South. With a cast that includes Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Samuel L. Jackson, this could be the perfect movie to unveil Tarantino’s new concept.
