Foggy Seacliff Beach, Santa Cruz Surfing Fun! � August 16, 2008 - Northern California Paradise Beach Series (English eBook C4)

One of the hottest days of summer 2008 was Saturday, August 16. The entire week had been sweltering so when the weekend arrived, thousands of families headed to the California coast to cool down from the oppressive 90F - 100F heat wave. Unfortunately, upon arriving at the beach it was discovered that there was an onshore flow of air. Meaning, the fog had rolled in off the Pacific Ocean and covered the beach. The fog had its desired cooling effect and then some. From 100F inland the temperature on the beach was a much cooler 60F - 70F with a mist of foggy water droplets. Maybe a little too perfect! Despite the cooler temperatures, families and their kids had fun at both Seacliff Beach located at State Park in Aptos and at Seal Rock located in Santa Cruz. Both located minutes away from each other in Northern California on the coast of the Pacific Ocean one hour south of San Francisco. After spending part of the afternoon at Seacliff Beach, it was then time to take a break and head north to Seal Rock in Santa Cruz. Seal rock is located just west of the Santa Cruz Pier. Here you can see some wonderfully talented surfers catching the waves. Surfing is very popular at Seal Rock and along this area of the Pacific Coast. So make sure to bring your boogie board, surfboard, bike, and camera! After a day of boogie boarding and surfing, head into downtown Santa Cruz. There are many wonderful places to visit and a shop for almost every taste. My favorite stop is the “Bad Ass Cafe” for a hot tea and a little HDTV.
