Il mio contributo al libro CHICAGO BLUES (Bleak House, 2007) ha significato intraprendere una via al di fuori del mio “mondo sicuro”, ma è questo quello che amo dello scrivere racconti brevi. Mi permettono di sfruttare al massimo e sperimentare diversi personaggi, trame, epoche e ambientazioni. Questa storia parla di un bassista di blues, le cui capacità di amare e perdonare sono messe alla prova da eventi al di fuori del suo controllo. È presente anche un elemento storico: il racconto ha luogo sia negli anni Ottanta sia negli anni Cinquanta. È una delle storie più dolci che abbia mai scritto. Questa storia fa parte, insieme ad altri 14 racconti, dell’antologia NICE GIRL DOES NOIR, a breve disponibile in italiano.

Libby Fischer Hellmann è un’autrice di romanzi gialli che si sta facendo conoscere con questo genere narrativo. Il thriller pubblicato nel 2010, SET THE NIGHT ON FIRE, ci riporta nella Chicago degli anni Sessanta. La Hellmann ha scritto due serie di romanzi polizieschi, una che vede come protagonista la detective Georgia Davis, mentre nell’altra il personaggio principale è Ellie Foreman, produttrice video di professione e investigatrice per caso. La sua raccolta di racconti brevi, NICE GIRL DOES NOIR, è stata pubblicata nel 2010. Ha inoltre scritto una piacevole novella di stile cozy, THE LAST PAGE, e un romanzo del genere police procedural, TOXICITY. A BITTER VEIL, thriller letterario ambientato nell’Iran della Rivoluzione, sarà pubblicato nell’aprile del 2012.
