Described as the Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie created the legendary detectives Poirot and Miss Marple. Her books sell worldwide in more than 70 different languages. She wrote plays – The Mousetrap is the longest running play in London.
Her background is fascinating. She had a long-standing involvement in archaeology, in which she was actively involved in excavations. There was also a mystery of her own – she disappeared for 11 days without explanation. It led to a police hunt and there have been many speculative suggestions as to the reasons for the disappearance.
This book looks at her life and work, and the influence Agatha Christie continues to have on detective fiction.
