I want future generations to have some insight into what it was like to have grown up on a small Iowa farm during the difficult years from the late 1930’s through 1960. Through my eyes, I describe what it was like to be the youngest of four brothers; the adventures of attending a one-room, rural country school; the trials and tribulations of growing up on a farm; high school and college adventures; fighting forest fires in the West, and military duty in Germany. I point out how I dealt with each new phase of my life. Hopefully, this book will refresh some memories, and for the rest of you, understand that the “good ole days” are here and now for you. Make the best of them, and you will not regret it.
