Brewster J. Lawless, known as Jake, is a private detective/bartender in New Stratley, a suburb of Boston. 14 year old Tommy Baxter hires Jake to find his mother. She works for a high tech company. Two people die and Jake is the prime suspect. He teams with the gun-toting daughter of a retired FBI agent but they find more trouble in Brazil including the police and some evil characters.
