He continued to pursue a career in music for several years after college until developing an interest in journalism. In 1982, he earned a Masters in Journalism from Columbia University in New York.While living in New York, he started writing for the Queens Tribune. His sports journalism career kicked off when he started writing a column for The Detroit Free Press in 1985.After Tuesdays with Morrie, Albom wrote The Five People you Meet in Heaven, and For One More Day. Both books reached the New York Times best seller list. In addition to co-authoring a stageplay adaptation of Tuesdays with Morrie Albom has also written two comedic stage plays, Duck Hunter Shoots Angel and And the Winner Is.Tuesdays with Morrie, published in 1997, is a non-fiction book based on conversations between Mitch Albom and Morrie Schwartz, Mitchs favorite professor from Brandeis University. The book came to the top of the New York Times best seller list in 1998. It has been adapted into both a movie and a stage play.
