New teachers have no idea of the challenges they will face when they walk into the classroom for their first year of teaching. Whether it is a public school in the inner city or an upscale private school, students today lack discipline, making it stressful and difficult for new teachers.
Mrs. Hill has brought her extensive teaching experiences from all of these settings together in this practical guide to managing classroom behavior. These behavioral strategies are not theory but proven methods to improve the classroom experience for children and teachers.
If you put these methods into practice your students will benefit from the discipline. They will be able to learn the skills needed to take their place in society because you will not be spending all your time attempting to correct unruly behavior. You will then be able to experience the rewards of teaching.
Mamie Jefferson-Hill was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Ever since childhood she wanted to become a schoolteacher. At the age of six, she began teaching her little three-year-old brother to read. She is pleased that he grew up to be Master Thomas Jefferson in the US Marine Corps and later, became pastor of his own church.
As a child, Mamie played school with her friends and taught the neighborhood children. As an adult, she taught her own son to read at the age of four. She was also pleased when he graduated from Cleveland State University.
While her son was in high school, Mamie went back to college and graduated in 1999 with a degree in Elementary Education from John Carroll University. Mamie has been teaching children in Northeast Ohio ever since graduation.
