«Ci sono buchi in Sardegna che sono case di fate, morti che sono colpa di donne vampiro, fumi sacri che curano i cattivi sogni e acque segrete dove la luna specchiandosi rivela il futuro e i suoi inganni. Ci sono statue di antichi guerrieri alti come nessun sardo è stato mai, truci culti di santi che i papi si sono scordati di canonizzare, porte di pietra che si aprono su mondi ormai scomparsi, e mari di grano lontani dal mare, costellati di menhir contro i quali le promesse spose si strusciano nel segreto della notte, vegliate da madri e nonne. C'è una Sardegna come questa, o davanti ai camini si racconta che ci sia, che poi è la stessa cosa, perché in una terra dove il silenzio è ancora il dialetto piú parlato, le parole sono luoghi piú dei luoghi stessi, e generano mondi. Questo è un viaggio in compagnia di dieci parole, dieci percorsi alla ricerca di altrettanti luoghi, piú uno. Undici mete, perché i numeri tondi si addicono solo alle cose che possono essere capite definitivamente. Non è cosí la Sardegna, dove ogni spazio apparentemente conquistato nasconde un oltre che non si fa mai cogliere immediatamente, conservando la misteriosa verginità delle cose solo sfiorate».
