Пьеса «Вильгельм» - одна из частей своеобразной трилогии о любви и ненависти, о коварном предательстве и жертвенной преданности, об измене и непоколебимой верности. Пьеса охватывает небольшой временной отрезок из жизни саксонского герцогства, самой северной территории германской империи, под предводительством волевого и властного герцога Вильгельма Гёльдерлина.
Драма рассказывает о частной жизни герцога и его семьи, об испытаниях, выпавших на их долю, в конфликтах братоубийственной, междоусобной борьбы феодалов за власть. Борьбы герцога Вильгельма с насаждаемой Римом папской диктатурой. Ну и конечно, о жизнеутверждающей и всепобеждающей силе любви, отражённой в образах дочери герцога – Гретхен и её возлюбленного Вильгельма, простого крестьянского парня, по воле судьбы оказавшегося в эпицентре противостояния герцога, викингов и папы Римского. О нежном чувственном союзе двух молодых людей, разрушающих коварные смертоносные козни человеческой жестокости и всепоглощающей алчности. Все события происходят под неусыпным вниманием мистических откровений старой ведуньи, пребывающей вне бренной проблематики противостояния героев пьесы.
Вторая часть книги состоит их философских размышлений на вечную тему жизни и смерти – мини-пьеса «Диалог» и подборки стихов на извечные проблемы в отношениях человека и власти, как светской, так и канонической.
