This fascinating investigation delves into the controversial question of whether Jesus did, or did not, visit India and Tibet during his Ômissing yearsÕ. Alan Jacobs presents all the evidence for and against such speculation impartially, so that the reader can form his or her own reasoned judgment on this tantalising theory, which has stimulated filmmakers, authors and scholars of religious history, both in the East and West.Astonishingly, no further details are given by the Four Evangelists as to where Jesus went and what he did to Ôincrease in statureÕ during these entire eighteen years! The problem of the Ômissing yearsÕ is one of the great biblical and historical mysteries. There are many theories which exist as to how Jesus could have spent those Ômissing yearsÕ, and Jacobs examines the most important of them, as well as the Indian and Tibetan legends. Islamic Scholars have a great deal to say on this topic. However, it is the modern, apocryphal Aquarian Gospel, rather than the ancient canonical Gospels, that tells us precisely of ChristÕs mission to India, Tibet and Nepal, and his adventures there. The actual historical and archaeological evidence that Jesus may have indeed spent his Ômissing yearsÕ in Tibet, Nepal and Kashmir was first brought to light in the late nineteenth century, by the then famous Russian author and explorer, the notorious Nicolai Notovitch. It is on these discoveries, along with the Aquarian Gospel, that the forthcoming motion picture has been based, sending out reverberations of controversy and interest at this time.
