For 122 years, the Windsor Star has delivered news and information to Windsor and Essex County, and today is Canada's best-read metropolitan newspaper per capita in print and online, keeping readers up to date on what's happening in the community, the country and around the world.In 1888, Archibald McNee purchased The Windsor Record, a weekly paper which he turned into a daily in 1890 when he brought in Mr. John A. McKay of Woodstock. In 1906, Mr. McKay became the sole owner of the paper until 1918, when W. F. Herman, bought out the McKay interests in the Record and changed the name to the Border Cities Star. The Windsor Daily Star in 1935 following the amalgamation of several small communities and then the Windsor Star in 1959. The Star was sold to the Southam publishing group in 1971 and in 2000, became part of CanWest Global Communications Inc. Canwest was restructured in 2010 with 11 major newspapers, including the Star, becoming part of Postmedia Network Inc. The Star publishes six days a week, Monday through Saturday.
